When Creeping Charlie Crashes Your Lawn Party

Ah, Creeping Charlie. The plant you didn’t invite… but somehow moved in permanently.

Also known as ground ivy or Glechoma hederacea, this fast-spreading perennial weed is part of the mint family. It blooms in early spring with pretty little purple-blue flowers and even smells minty when crushed.

Charming? Maybe. Welcome in your lawn? Not so much.

Creeping Charlie spreads aggressively through creeping stems (stolons), deep roots, and seeds. It thrives in damp, shady areas and forms thick mats that push your grass aside like it owns the place.

How to Show Creeping Charlie the Exit

✔ Improve drainage (it loves soggy soil)

✔ Trim trees and bushes to reduce shade

✔ Fertilize and overseed to thicken your lawn

✔ Mow at 3–4 inches for stronger roots

✔ Apply proper broadleaf weed treatments when needed

A thick, healthy lawn is your best defense — because strong grass doesn’t make room for freeloaders.

How Community Lawn Care Can Help

If Creeping Charlie has overstayed its welcome, Community Lawn Care offers targeted broadleaf weed spray treatments (1–3 visits depending on severity), along with fertilization programs to strengthen your lawn from the ground up.

Let’s evict the invader and get your lawn looking golf-course ready!
