What is a cooperative?
A cooperative is started by a group of people who want to meet a common need. Centra Sota Cooperative’s story started in 1877 when farmers joined together to market milk and butter through a local creamery. In 1922, Producers Co-op Creamery was formed and became one of the first cooperatives to produce Land O Lakes Sweet Cream Butter!
A cooperative is different than the average business because it is owned and controlled by its customers. We call these Cooperative owners “Patrons.” A patron is defined as “an influential supporter.” Our patrons have a voice in how Centra Sota is run, and can receive yearly payments (called patronage) and build equity in our cooperative!

While Centra Sota began as a cooperative for farmers, we offer many services including:
-
Energy - propane to heat your home, or fuel for your business truck fleet
-
Agronomy - helping farmers choose the best products and services for their farm
-
Feed - for small backyard flocks or hundreds of head of cattle
-
Community Lawn Care - keeping your home or business lawn beautiful while giving back to the community
-
Country Stores - where experts help you find the right pet food, garden supplies, and more

Centra Sota is proud of our cooperative legacy, and proud to support communities throughout central Minnesota.
