It’s time for our weekly cover crop post! We’re sharing a new cover crop each week, offering tips on how to grow them and discussing their pros and cons. This week, we’re focusing on Spring Oats!

Planting Details:

Should be planted between April 15th and September 15th north of interstate 94.

The minimum germination temperature for planting is 38 degrees F.

Planting rate should be 30-45 lbs./acre and planted 1 – 1 1/2″ deep.
About Spring Oats:

Spring oats are commonly used in cover crop systems due to their ability to establish quickly.

They are often included in winter-kill mixes because they do not survive harsh winter conditions, making them easy to manage.
